Privacy Policy
How we handle your data at Dojo
Dojo ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Dojo social application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at privacy@dojo.com.
1. Information We Collect
- Account & Contact Information: email address, phone number, username, display name, and an encrypted password (or a sign-in token if you use Sign in with Apple or Google).
- Profile Information: avatar, bio, social links, and profile cards you add.
- Content You Create: posts, comments, replies, direct and group messages, dojo (community) content, and any photos, videos, or audio you upload.
- Contacts: if you choose to invite friends, we access your device contacts with your permission, solely to help you find and invite people. We do not store your address book.
- Location: with your permission, we use your approximate (about city-level) location to help you discover people and communities near you. You can turn this off anytime in your device settings.
- Device & Identifiers: device model, operating system and app version, IP address, and push-notification tokens.
- Usage & Diagnostics: how you interact with the app (such as taps, views, and sessions), plus crash and performance diagnostics.
- Advertising Data: if a sponsored post is shown to or tapped by you, we record that interaction to measure the ad (see Section 4).
- AI-Derived Signals: we use automated analysis to tag content with topics, keywords, and safety signals that power your feed and our moderation (see Section 3).
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, operate, secure, and improve the app
- Personalize your feed and recommend content and communities
- Power the content filters you create
- Display and measure sponsored posts
- Detect, review, and remove content that violates our rules, and keep the community safe
- Communicate with you about your account, support, and updates
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Automated Processing & AI
We use automated systems, including third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI), to analyze content you and others post — for example, to identify topics, generate recommendations, and detect harmful content. Content sent to these providers is processed only to provide these features and is not used by them to train their models.
Content Filters & Sensitive Information. If you create a content filter, we analyze content to match it. If you create a filter related to political topics (for example, to see more or less political content), this analysis can infer political viewpoints from content — which is considered sensitive information. We perform this political analysis only after you give explicit consent in the app, and you can delete these filters and withdraw consent at any time. We do not use this analysis to build advertising profiles or share it with third parties.
4. Advertising
Dojo shows first-party sponsored posts within the app. When a sponsored post is shown to or tapped by you, we record impression and click events (linked to your account) to measure performance for advertisers. We do not:
- use third-party advertising networks or SDKs,
- use the device Advertising Identifier (IDFA), or
- track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Because our advertising is first-party, we do not engage in cross-app tracking and do not present the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
5. How We Share Information
We share data only as needed:
- Service Providers (subprocessors): Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Firebase (analytics and crash reporting, with advertising features disabled), OpenAI (content analysis), and LiveKit (real-time audio/video). These providers process data on our behalf under contract.
- Other Users: content you post publicly and your profile information are visible to others based on your settings.
- Legal & Safety: when required by law or to protect users.
- Business Transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Data Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Account), we remove your personal data, with a short grace period (up to 30 days) for safety, legal, and abuse-prevention purposes. De-identified, aggregated data may be retained for analytics.
7. Your Choices & Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to withdraw consent. In the app you can:
- Delete your account (Settings → Account)
- Export your data
- Turn off location and contacts access (device settings)
- Delete content filters, including political ones, and withdraw consent for political content analysis
To exercise other rights, contact privacy@dojo.com. EU/UK users may also contact their local data protection authority.
8. Children
Dojo is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact privacy@dojo.com.
9. Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, to protect your data. No system is completely secure.
10. International Users
We are based in the United States. If you use Dojo elsewhere, your data may be processed in the U.S. or other countries where our service providers operate, with appropriate safeguards.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy and will notify you of material changes. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
